Code snippets & macros, a place to post just snippets (not complex projects) since we all have many rags and it will be great to share with others.

here i am.
before we continue i wanted to say that the security matter can be a major issue.
you can make one of the following in your add-in:
1) have the password clear (db "mypass",0). in this case any asm programmer can get the password in zero-time, even without the sources.
2) scrambled/crypted password and a decryption routine. in this case is little more difficult to get the password but not impossible (remember that we are asm programmers).

in both cases, as the password will travel on internet, it can be intercepted at network level with the right tools.

we could setup an account on the database with only read rights (so everybody could have the password), but in this way the addin will be able to only *read* the snippets and not modify them.

i don't know, i will check on mysql manuals.
any idea?

Blues : I totally agree your vision.
I thought about another possibility : Share a folder (www.winasm.net/library/ maybe ?) in order to store snippets. No more db. Just the same "process" as the current local one.
Maybe simplier to implement....

What do you say ??

PS :

is not necessary to reverse-engineer the decryption routine, you can just monitor the memory and find the location where will be written the decrypted password...

about the folder: still exists a security problem... another program written by an hacker could have access to the file system of the server and write/read files as he wants...
